Sunday Services

Church08.00 - Communion Service

The 8am service is a traditional communion service led according to the Book of Common Prayer (BCP). This is a small (around 15 people), traditional service - there's a hymn, a Holy Communion and a short sermon.

10.00 - Morning Service

The 10am service is an all age service, with children's groups from 3-14, and crèche facilities. There's a mixture of hymns, songs, and a children's song, a short interactive talk for the children and a longer sermon - usually the practise is to preach a series through a whole book of the Bible. This is the largest service at BH, around 250 people attend. There's tea and coffee served afterwards, people usually hang around till about midday.

18.30 - Evening Service

The evening service is pretty informal. We sing more contemporary songs (along with the classic hymns that never get old) and listen to a sermon preached from the Bible. Sometimes this service specifically addresses topical issues or hosts a 'Cafe Service' with refreshments and opportunites for group discussion. Tea and Coffee are served afterwards and many people like to stay and chat with one another. There's a group for Students & 20's that meets in the church centre after the service, and also a youth group (14-18s) that meets in the church hall.

What should I wear?

There's no dress code at BH. Some people like to dress smartly (usually at the morning services), some people like to dress pretty casually (usually at the evening services) but please come dressed how ever you feel comfortable.

What time do I need to arrive?

Services do start promptly, so make sure you arrive a few minutes before the specified time. After the services things are a little more relaxed, there's plenty of time to hang around, chat over coffee, make new friends, talk about the sermon, and browse the bookstall.

What do I do when I'm there?

Every service is led by a church member or church leader from the front - they tell everyone what to do when, and all the words that we say or songs that we sing appear on a large projection screen and on a paper service sheet. Meetings are fairly well structured, so you can't go too wrong!
